There's a whole lot of
cheating going on!
Examples of cheating can be found in many places and is probably most
noticeable in the market place. In the fierce competition to gain
market share and improve profits, more businesses are resorting to
cheating the consumer out of their dollars and pennies. Deceptive
marketing is common enough that usually we don't get too concerned any
more and thus give it our OK.
Cheating
spreads its way through society with money being the prime motivation
but spilling over into other areas of our daily lives. There is
cheating in sports, schools, boardrooms, offices and homes.
Why
is there so much cheating? I believe that one of the main reasons is
that when we perceive cheating or are cheated by others, most of us do
not complain. The more it works the more it spreads.
Those
without good basic morals see it as a way to personal gain even though
it is not just. Signals to that effect are continually sent to those
profiting from the dishonesty, to their competitors who are watching
closely, and to those affected.
"But there are new reasons why people cheat and
these may give us a clue about how to stop the rising tide of cheating.
Some people cheat today because they simply cannot get everything done
which needs to be done. American life has become so intense, so rushed,
so fully packed. Many shortcuts we seek involve cheating . . . "
An article Nation of Cheaters by Kirk O.
Hanson provides some excellent insight on cheating.
